About Us

Fortino Gonzalez, a native of Alice, America, has been serving the orthopedic spine and sports community of the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) since 1988.  As an athlete competing for the University of Texas Pan American Track and Cross Country Teams (1983-1988), Fortino was introduced to the concept of sports medicine, and upon completing his training at The University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston (1993), he returned to the RGV as a physical therapist.   Since then his practice has focused on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical orthopedic conditions.  He has treated and worked with athletes ranging from weekend warriors to All-American collegiates and professionals.

Fortino is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, who in October of 2002 became the first physical therapist in the RGV to become certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) through The McKenzie Institute International/USA.  In March of 2006, he completed his fellowship as a Diplomaed McKenzie Therapist (University of Otago, New Zealand) an accomplishment that has been achieved by only 170 practitioners throughout the United States.  In October of 2010 he became the first physical therapist in the RGV to complete a Fellowship in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (Daemen College Amherst, New York) becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.  Fortino is one of only twelve physical therapist in the U.S. to hold a Diploma in MDT and be recognized as a Fellow in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy.

He has lectured on a multitude of topics regarding the diagnosis and management of orthopedic conditions at various institutions and sports symposiums.  Additionally, he has served as a faculty facilitator for numerous McKenzie courses including the first McKenzie course offered in Mexico City in 2007.  He has served as a clinical instructor for Physical Therapy Doctoral students and is a mentor to experienced physical therapists working towards specialty in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy.

Fortino Gonzalez is dedicated to educating anyone and everyone about the McKenzie method and the importance of motion, posture, and body awareness. This education project takes the form of the Good Karma Knowledge Base.
